[edit]Useful source for later: http://www.burningloveinstitute.com/Film15.htm Sherurcij 14:29, 6 December 2005 (UTC) I was 11yo in 1974 so my memory is a little foggy. But I recall Mark J. Essex's name being brought up during the investigationof Byck. Essex Being the Black man that killed one or more police officers before holding up in the New Orleans Downtown Howard Johnson, and being killed by police in 1973.
LOL
[edit]"Byck began to harbor the belief that the government was conspiring to oppress the poor." --What a crazy guy! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.130.189.213 (talk) 02:54, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Just curious - "He began to believe that the government was conspiring to oppress the poor." - it's not sourced or anything, I'm curious if this was an irrational belief, or was he actually interested in ending poverty (obviously he had problems, but is it so crazy to think the government oppresses the poor? I see it all the time!). It's the first I've read about this fellow. - Joe, 8 December, 2005
Anderson or Bernstein or Both?
[edit]mention is made to tapes sent to jack anderson and tapes sent to leonard berstein. did he send tapes to both? did he send tapes to others as well?
Tapes were sent to "a number of prominent people", including Leonard Bernstein, Dr. Jonas Salk, Jack Anderson, and Senator Abraham Ribicoff (source - Defining Danger by James W. Clarke). CheshiresMasquerade (talk) 22:44, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
So when did the co-pilot die?
[edit]Did he die immediately or soon after the hijacking? --Charlene 01:09, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
The co-pilot lived. Only the pilot died.Azn Clayjar 19:35, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Actually, the co-pilot died during the hijacking; he was shot in the stomach right after Byck entered the cockpit and then later in the head, killing him. The pilot lived (as the wiki article states). He was shot in the shoulder. CheshiresMasquerade (talk) 22:42, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Proof of the Media Cover Up
[edit]This article states that Sam Byck's assassination attempt went purposely unreported by the media, fearing copycat crimes. The allegation that there was a media cover up is something that I would like to see substantiated. Until then, I am going to mark it as "citation needed".
- I recall reading contemporary New York Times / Washington Post articles (while researching Byck at university) that mentioned that his target was the White House. This information was reported a few days after the attack happened (presumably the delay in finding the tapes?). Unfortunately I no longer have access to a newspaper archive and so I cannot confirm this - however this would stand as evidence of 'no cover up', and so I too would be very interested in seeing substantiation for the above claim.--Gypsydave5 (talk) 16:48, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Here are 3 stories in the New York Times, first paragraph free, rest of story is pay per view:

- Given the above, I would will now edit the paragraph to remove the false and unsubstantiated claim. Gypsydave5 (talk) 15:15, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Intentions
[edit]The introduction refers to a plan to fly a plane into the White House. However was that actually his intent? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.197.15.138 (talk) 05:44, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
Airport name
[edit]Thurgood Marshall's name was attached to the airport in 2005 and perhaps shouldn't be used here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.96.211.162 (talk) 03:31, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
Suicide or shot by cop?
[edit]We have refs saying he was shot and killed by policeman Charles Troyer (or Toyer), and a ref saying he shot and killed himself. DuncanHill (talk) 03:52, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
